Please plan to attend.  We have a mere..... 2 General Assembly meetings per year!

Once again, THIS SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5th is SUPER BOWL SUNDAY.....NO INDOOR SESSIONS FOR ANY GROUPS!

Finally, have you scheduled your son's physical exam yet?  Doctors offices are swamped by the flu season.  Schedule now as all registration forms including required physical due on March 18th.  No physical....no play...!

REGISTRATION STILL REMAINS OPEN FOR:

Perspective players in 7th and 8th grade ONLY!  Registration not available for 4th, 5th or 6th grade.  If you know someone who might be interested in 7th or 8th grade, invite them to indoor and have them check out our website!!   There is detailed information at the bottom of our posts surrounding how to pre-register.

Haven't made an indoor session yet? Those that have are getting a great workout along with several of our coaches having an opportunity to get to know those who have made the effort.  If you're not participating in an organized sport on sunday's such as basketball, hockey or wrestling...you may really want to consider showing up.

SUNDAY NIGHT DRILL FOR SKILL - INDOOR SESSIONS - Remaining dates for indoor include February 12, 19, 26, March 4.  All sessions scheduled at the CRC.  There are approximately 40 boys who have NOT been to a single indoor session.....why not?  Those attending are meeting the coaches and more importantly, preparing for evaluations and the upcoming season.  If you are NOT in a organized Winter sport that requires your attendance on sundays, then you are truly missing a wonderful opportunity.

FIRST YEAR PLAYERS should attend the 5pm to 630pm session.  Emphasis on passing, catching, ground balls, cradling, positioning, etc...  Bring your stick only, tennis shoes/sweats, great attitude, homework done for Monday!  Can a first year player attend the 630 to 8pm session?  Answer is NO!  Why not?  Because the skill drills and speed of the latter session will be overwhelming for a novice player.  Can a 3rd grader or waiting list 4th grader attend the 5pm to 630pm indoor sessions?  Answer is YES!  Is there a cost for these sessions?  Answer is NO!

RETURNING PLAYERS (or players new to district with Lacrosse experience) are STRONGLY encouraged to attend 630pm to 8pm sessions!  Many of our 2012 coaches are taking the time to be present during these sessions.  This is an opportunity to "shine" in addition to improving your skills and conditioning.  You will be CHALLENGED in these sessions.  All returning players should arrive 15 minutes prior to session and begin stretching out.  Stick, gloves, helmet, tennis shoes/sweats, positive attitude and all your school work completed...that simple!

TEAM SELECTION for 2012 - EVALUATIONS ON MARCH 11th and MARCH 18th!!

We will once again field 7 teams including grades 4th thru 8th.  The makeup of our teams will be determined after final evaluations.  We will roster a maximum of 25 players per team.  There are no "Cuts" in our program, with every player being placed on a team.  The bracketing includes 8/7, 6/5 and 4/3.  We do not have any 3rd graders as we have an abundance of 4th graders and cannot select a 3rd grader over a 4th grader.  There will be player evaluations scheduled for ALL players in grades 5th through 8th on March 11th and March 18th.  Attendance at 1 of these 2 sessions is MANDATORY!  You need to be at evaluations so you can be placed on the team that best represents your overall Lax skills and ensures comparable competition against opponents.  Evaluations make this goal more attainable and accurate.  Your current grade level nor year(s) of Lacrosse experience will be criteria for team selection.  There are a number of reasons that selections will be made in this manner that include safety, scheduling, player development, coaching instruction maximization and more.  Why this new development?

SHEER NUMBERS - Peters Twp. Boys Lacrosse growth is exploding!  While this is wonderful in itself, there are many challenges that we now face that were not existent during our inaugural year of 1997.  An example includes that we have 34 returning 6th graders!  You cannot field 34 players on a team....25 is the MAXIMUM number to ensure safety, player growth, and skill development.  In addition, we have exceptionally talented younger players, thus the need to promote evaluations and objective team selection.

SAFETY - Lacrosse is a contact sport and has become more and more competitive in Western PA every year!  The single most important goal in our program is our attempt to insure player safety.  Selecting squads that are comprised of like-kind student-athletes promotes the concept of player safety during practice sessions as well as during games.

SCHEDULING - Peters Township is blessed in that we have 7 teams competing in our program.  Most school districts have 3 programs; 1 - 8/7 team, 1 - 6/5 team and 1 developmental team comprised of 3rd and/or 4th graders.   When we schedule games, we attempt to schedule "like kind" opponents.  The attempt to schedule "like kind" opposition is the most challenging task I am faced with every year.  It is in the best interest of both programs and all players to compete at a level that is as close to being "like kind" as possible.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT - Placement on the team most likely reflecting a player's current skill level affords time to mature physically while improving his skills.  We are also very much attempting to prepare players for entry into the High School level which is much a much faster game and more physical stamina being required.

COACHING INSTRUCTION MAXIMIZATION - While there will always be some disparity between any group being instructed, parting information, technique, skill set, drills and motivation is most beneficial to the student-athlete and coach when disparity is minimized.  Lacrosse instruction and skill development becomes more demanding and rigorous as you go further up the ladder.  When everyone is "on the same page" or virtually on the same page, the team grows along with each individual player.  Team chemistry and comaraderie ensues and confirms why Lacrosse has clearly become the fastest growing and most popular sport in North America over the past decade.  Why do you think it's called the "Creator's Game"?

In summary.....player team selection will be done with player safety and total objectivity in mind.  Every player will have the opportunity to receive an unbiased evaluation and be placed accordingly .  Our evaluators will include our coaching staff members only along with accomplished collegiate Lacrosse players who may be invited to these evaluation sessions.  NONE of these evaluators will be Dad's or Mom's of players.  The PTBYLA Executive Board will NOT have any input or opinion on player team selection.  The end result is a sincere attempt to provide a most positive Lax experience for EVERY PT Lacrosse Warrior according to his abilities and God given talent.....

OLD....OLD....OLD.....POSTED 6-7-2011

Dear Peters Twp. Lacrosse Parents, Warriors, Executive Board and Coaching Staff...

"We are SUCCESS if we live well, laugh often and love much; if we never lack the appreciation of that which GOD has created or fail to express it; if we follow our dreams and pursue excellence in our tasks...if we attempt to bring out the best in others and give only the best of ourselves"....

As you know, this past Sunday marked the "official" conclusion of our 2011 Lax season.  Like the day itself, our season was filled with much sunshine, comaraderie, laughter and FUN!  I reflect back to the howling winds of the January indoor sessions, wondering aloud...."can we do it again...can we have another magical season where the caterpillars become iredescent butterflies?"  While the path traveled during the past few months presented several challenges and hurdles, I am proud to say that through the perserverance and leadership on the part of my fellow Executive Board members, in addition to a remarkable coaching staff, a committed and objective parent group along with an exuberant group of fine young men....the answer is INDEED!  Yes, we certainly fulfilled another magical season of individual and team success...the most important of which was developing character!

I especially wish to bid a fond farewell to our outgoing 8th grade class, a most accomplished and gifted band of fine young men.  I am certain they will soar to even greater heights throughout the proceeding years!  Our graduates include:

Reece Ruscella

Michael Layton

Kyle Martin

Greg Oleynik

Wade Ogburn

Jake Uhler

Ben Morgret

Cullen Twardowski

Cam Kelly

Ben Mountain

In conclusion....my sincere gratitude to all for your objectivity, dedication and friendship.  I hope that I have provided the PTBYLA with the leadership it deserves and the outcomes desired.  It has been my privilege and a great honor being part of our Lacrosse family.

Have a safe and reLAXing Summer!

Hearty Congratulations to Black Team Player - GEORGE WATSON!!  It is my privilege to inform you that George has been selected to receive the Pittsburgh Lacrosse Foundation's SPIRIT of the GAME Award!!  This distinction is reserved for players who continuosly exemplify commitment, teamwork, love of the game and most especially GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP!   George has been a member of our Lax program for the past 4 years.  His physical presence and intense play at close D has made our opponents cringe at the thought of coming to the cage.  G-man and his parents will be recognized formally on June 16th at the PLF banquet.  Please join me in congratulating George and his parents Keith and Maureen in receiving this most outstanding distinction.

KEYSTONE GAME UPDATE...!! Jake Uhler and George Watson have been selected as 2 of the 25 participants to represent Western PA. in the Keystone Games July 30 & 31st at State College.  Kudo's to our "Spirit of the Game" recipient and our "Braveheart" Blue Devil back breaker!!

   Champions Bleed Black and RED......

PLAYERS....YOU are responsible for your equipment being ready. Tighten the head/crosse of your stick, make sure there is a butt end on the stick. Make certain all your equipment is ready to go for game day.  If it is wet and smells...hang it up before your games and let it dry.  Your Mother and Father are NOT your equipment manager. 2 more points....is your name on every piece of equipment? Equipment is lost and left behind....there is no way to get it back without a name and/or phone number on it. Finally, have you thanked your parents for all they've done for you so far this season? If you haven't...then DO IT TONITE!
WARRIORS BLEED BLACK AND RED and they also appreciate their parents...so DO IT!

Our current policy surrounding missed practices, etc...

***24 Hour Rule - In situations where a practice is posted providing only 24 hour notice or less, any player tardy for said practice WILL NOT incurr any additional conditioning "penalty" which sometimes has previously been the case.  This rule will be communicated to the coaching staff.

***Phone Tree - We are in the process of creating a phone tree whereby a phone call will be made surrounding any late breaking cancellations of a practice or other significant change.  This will be in ADDITION to website updates.

PARENTS.....read this again....

Practice makes perfect...a miss is a miss is a miss.   The "rule of thumb" is as follows and has been conveyed multiple times:

1 missed practice–1 missed quarter in the upcoming game,
2 misses–missed half in the game,
3 misses–you will be fortunate to get any playing time and you are still expected to be at the game,
Missing a Saturday game (usually away) means you miss a minimum of a 1/2 in the game on Sunday.
All coaches will/have conveyed their thoughts on missed practices.  Most coaches attempt to afford all players an opportunity to offset misses by doing extra sprints or excercises either before or after practice.  This is the call of the individual coach; however, he can elect to follow the guidelines as established above surrounding misses.  Attendance at practice is CRITICAL to team success and chemistry.

Players please ...
  • Write your NAME on all your gear.
  • Check that you have ALL your gear BEFORE you leave the house. Don't forget your JERSEY on game days!
  • Before you leave the field, collect ALL your belongings and dispose of any trash.
  • On the ride home, talk about how much fun the game was! Share your favorite play, best game moment, etc.
Parents please ...
  • Refrain from interrupting practices. Keep to the sidelines.
  • Pick up players promptly at the conclusion of practice.
  • Plan to have players at the field at least 10 min before practice time and one hour before game time.
  • Remind players to check to be sure they have all their gear.
  • Game Days -- cheer your player and his teammates during their game
BUT please don't COACH from the stands
    Home Games --
check the volunteer schedule to see if you have a scheduled assignment and if so, arrive a bit early to your volunteer station for instructions.
  • Notice how much all the players improve as the season progresses.
  • Thank the coach for all his hard work during the week.
